  • A local Natioanl Hero
  • A local Hero passed away last night. His name is Charles Kettles. He lived modestly and was a regular visitor to the Yankee Air Museum.
I never knew him personally. I did know his wife, Ann, when we both served as Trustees on our neighboring school districts Boards of Education. We met as representatives to the Washtenaw County School Officers Association. In the whole county, I was the only male on the body. Ann called me "the token male". LOL Try that in today's political correctness society. Great memories.

  • I listened to him on WJR today from a talk he gave in 2017 to Frank Beckman when he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroics in Vietnam in 1967 as a chopper pilot. He detailed the event of rescuing 40 some American soldiers pinned downed in a firefight that began at 0900 and ended at 1900. US Army Lt. Colonel Kettles was a true American hero and may God Bless his soul.

  • There is a display about Charles Kettles in the Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run.
