  • Notre Dame Cathedral
  • For those of you who do not yet know, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is burning to the ground.

    How very tragic.

  • Yep.
Or some painter stripping paint with a torch outside. Fire goes in a crack to inside. No one pays attention till the whole roof is going up. Seen it happen way too many times.
Most projects of tall and or historic nature have a fire plan. The obviously did not.

  • Sad thing is that kind of intense heat for such a long time will destroy the mortar in the remaining structure. Within a few years the entire building will come down.

  • Mower, if you think he is wrong, why don't you tell us where he wrong. Your short snippy answer does nothing to enlighten us to your superior knowledge. Please
give us a reason to agree with you.

    Thank you,JamesNAL

  • The structure for the most part was wood, and with the billion pledged for renovation and rebuilding, I doubt very much that the entire building will come down.

  • I agree.

    Gothic stonework is mortarless.

  • No fatalities so that's a blessing but the entire interior was destroyed as it was mostly all wood. I just heard that most all the antiques were saved too including the original Crown of Thorns our Lord was given on the cross. Seems a priceless relic like that that should have been in the Vatican anyway. Every Catholic church has some relics of saints/martyrs in their sanctuaries. It usually is just a small fragment of bone. It'll be very interesting to see what the arson investigators discover; was it an act of arson/terrorist activity?

  • Most such disasters are determined to be the result of arson or careless workers.

The cathedral was undergoing major renovation wo I'll withhold judgement for the time being but the relentless characterization of the incident as "accidental" by the French authorities is in itself suspicious.

  • Socialib politicians both there and in the US are being stupid and advising not to even mention arson or a terrorist act' but we'll see.
