  • June 5, 1944
  • 75 years ago today my father was rolling through Rome Italy with his artillery battalion after surviving the Rapido River battle and then blasting Monte Cassino for over 3 months. The 5th Army got one day's headline for liberating Rome before the launch of D-Day on June 6th. It seems only war historians remember.

    I was thinking the same thing this past week when I was reading about operation "Torch". I heard someone mention it & looked it up.

  • Dad was there, landed at Oran with the Texas 36th Division.

  • My dad was on the island of Saipan as a USN SeaBee (with many others) constructing an air base for bombers and fighter planes used in the war effort against Japan; (5 months later, I made my presence in the world).
