  • How many of you guys have and/or use Facebook ? After years and years of my kids ,friends and family harassing me to join I finely did, I actually have some of you in my "Friends List" I hate to say it but after getting the hang of it I kind of like it, I really like buying and selling on their "Marketplace" I've been weeding out some of my toys, I sold 2 of my old boats my 5th wheel camper and selling my car trailer.I had posted one of my boats on Craig's list too, By the time I sold the boat I had only had 1 reply from Craigslist but 26 from Facebook ! WOW!
I also found and bought a nice new/used 2008 Silverado truck that's in better shape than most.
    I guess I'm kind'a hooked.

  • Guys: You do know there is an ntractorclub Facebook page don't you? Established in 2015 yet not many posts since. The last one was in 2018. Is there any interest in it?

  • I have avoided Facebook because I like some privacy.
Everything we do and say these days is recorded so I don't want to share my family photos with the world as well.
The market place sounds good. I wonder if you can go on there without giving up all personal information.

  • I got on it a couple of years back and use it mostly to check out vintage and classic vehicles, tools and antiques. Having been a restorer of things old for many years as a hobby, there is everything imaginable on FB one can visit to either view photos, obtain useful technical assistance, locate useful parts, buy and sell parts, etc., etc. The only drawback that I've found as a FB user, is that on the personal side of the forum, there seems to be a huge number of foreign hackers always using one's FB account trying to obtain personal information from that user's "friends".

  • My wife has been on FB for several years. I am not and basically for one reason. I detest the "Like" button. If something is interesting enough, it deserves a response, not just hitting one button.

That said she is on a group from/of her hometown which gets quite interesting. She also is on Pictures of Alaska which is extremely enjoyable to us.

I may have to relent as it basically is the only way some of our children and grandchildren will communicate.

  • What kind of bike did you sell Phil? I will probably keep all mine until I croak, then give them to a local bike shop.

  • Re: Survey
  • I've been on Facebook for about 9 years now.
I use a pseudonym so remain mostly anonymous.
There is a lot on FB.
Some of the groups I belong to are Ford Tractors, Ford Tractors for Sale, Blue Power Fan page (blue Fords and New Holland) a local miscellaneous stuff for sale page and both of my old Navy ships have pages which are pretty good.
I've not bought or sold much on FB but like Dave, I have too much junk so I'm starting to pare it down and will start using the sale pages more.
The main reason I joined is I read a lot of internet news and many sites have a commentary area where you can voice your opinion on things.
Many sites let you use your FB ID to log in so one ID for a Lot of places.
My own page has Nothing, Nada! on it except for a picture of an old Ford Tractor.
I think the worst part of FB is all the tracking they do. My only internet is from my phone so I would NEVER dl/use their Facebook app.
It's the damn apps that do all the spying - mostly anyway.
I keep a pretty tight rein on the permissions I give too.
FB and Google don't get much in the way of permissions from me.
I think FB is worth joining even though I think they, like Google are evil.
Whatever your interests could conceivably be there is a group for it there.
If you're careful and are the type who can go to the casino for a good deal on dinner and drop 5 quarters in a slot machine on your way out and not get caught up in it, you'll be okay there.

  • Not a chance.
There's an old saying around IT circles-if you don't pay for the product, you are the product. There are far too many privacy concerns at the Facebook corporate level for me to ever become one of the Facebook minions.

  • I was asked by a collegue to join about 15 or so years ago. I did not. Since then I have heard too many horror stories of people being slammed.
Several friends have used the market place and swear by it. I may try but...

  • I have avoided it for several years. My ex uses it, and I did not want any stuff about me on it. But recently, after my Chinese diesel heater quit, I found a FB group, talking about the heater. Also there is an Island group on it, that I should probably follow. I will be asking for volunteers when I erect my new cottage.

So call me a fence sitter at the moment.

  • I have a facebook page but don't use it very often. None of my family members use it either. We all send pictures on our phones with messenger.

  • I hate the darn thing, shied away from it for years now. Just a couple of weeks ago a friend e-mailed a link to see pics of a friends pole barn fire and remains of hit tractor boat etc. They said attached linked to them thru them to another friend to the face book pics. All failed for some posted problem reason that I had no idea what the hay they were talking about, said just sign in and try again, failed again never saw the pics. I vowed then never again but since they have told me about buying and selling and since I swore off E-bay and Craig's is not too good I just may try it once more as I have a lot of stuff to sell too.

  • Joined FB several years ago when we were gone for a couple months in our motor home and knew the kids were on a white water raft trip. My wife knew they would post photo's of the trip and wanted to see them. Since then we have been keeping in touch with relatives and friends across the U.S., Canada, and even Norway. Never bought or sold anything, but check it every morning.
