  • Cast Iron oxy acetylene foundry welding rod
  • Hi All, I haven't been here in quite some time, but I have a project I'm working on and was wondering if anyone has a good source of the old bare cast iron foundry rod and high heat flux used with oxy gas setup for welding cast iron. I have found only one link after spending an entire day googling for it. I'll post the link to what I found but was curious if anyone knew of anywhere else to order small 1-5 pound quantities that wasn't quite as expensive. I do know about muggyweld, braze, nickle rod etc but needed to use cast iron specifically on a restoration piece.

  • It's been a while since I have done this, but I was welding a cast iron kettle and the only sticks of cast iron that I could find were much larger than I wanted to use. I have a friend that has a diesel repair shop, so I got some piston rings from him and torch welded with those. I still have the flux I used, but the label rotted away. I believe it was Thermocote Harris brand. A white powder. Hope this helps

  • Thanks Ed, ya there's very little info on it anymore. I ordered those at the link. I hope they are worth the price
