  • Ah, Spring!
  • Yup. According to the calendar, we are in spring. In all my years (77) I do not remember a day like today, let alone in a 5 hour period.
Between noon and 5pm we have had sun and wind, rain, hail, sun and wind, sleet, more sun and wind, sun and sleet and it looks like it will continue for hours. NW winds coming off of Lake Michigan sure have meteorologists tripping over their tongues. I picked on my granddaughter who graduates this year with a degree in meteorology.
I know many have said if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes.

  • As you well know John, Michigan has 9 months of winter. We lucked out with another low snowfall season (it's only April though) but it's the cold and ice that kills us. We had high winds and golf ball size hail here the Tuesday night, was 69F on Wednesday, and had snow showers all Thursday afternoon. I recall one April 28th we had 8" of snow overnight and nobody went to work. I had 4WD but neighbors only had 2WD and one got stuck in the road so nobody could out. Two of us plowed out our drives and other neighbors, then met in the middle of the road and shard a Thermos of coffee a third neighbor gal made and all three of us pushed out the other guy's truck. BTW, it's 32F now at 06.00 EST on Good Friday and windy.

  • Yup. As a lifelong Michigander, I have seen many variations in our weather. There were Thankgivings with deep snow and warm Christmases and we had 72* on a Thanksgiving and pitched horseshoes in our shirt sleeves.
St.Patricks day has caught me several times. Snow storm, 5 hours to go 130 miles to Mount Pleasaant, headed for Marquette, and got rear-ended.
Another St. Patricks, 1973, 12" on the ground and blistering blizard, 250 miles to Cincinatti, 9 hours in a rented motorhome with wife, mother and 3 small kids.
We had 20" of snow in December, 1974. I managed a 1000 apartment project and I plowed all night trying to keep streets open. I had sent my ground crew home the day before and they could not get back. Public streets not opened for 2 days.

  • Warmest day so far this year on my Island. No rain for a while, and none forecast.
About 62 outside. I am building a two story, 24 X 18 cottage on my Island. Picked a good year to do it. Now and then I take a ride around the Island on my bike.
Island Mike. Should add, I even get to do some work with Herb 9N.
