  • Stihl Chain Saw 310 will not shut off.
  • That's right. Most problems are chain saws wont start. The kill wire seems to be contacting the off switch OK. I even tried to ground the switch with the kill wire with a screw driver. No luck stopping the saw. Need to know where the kill wire goes to before I start disassembling the saw. Or, any other suggestions. I finally got the saw stopped by flipping the spark plug wire. This is a little unhandy.

  • Might be running lean, and a spec of something glows on the plug, which is enough to keep it running. Full choke can sometimes stop them. Clean the plug, add more fuel and see what happens. May have to put it in gear and stall it. For a saw that would be putting it to a piece of wood.

  • Thanks Island Mike,
Spark plug was OK. Dug a little deeper and found broken kill wire at the coil. Not as difficult as I thought. Only required removing 4 Torx socket screws at the recoil start cover. Case closed!!

  • Sweet. A good kill switch is a true blessing. Especially when the crank breaks on your race bike at 90.
