  • No, fortunately. We are 120 miles SE of the area.
I feel bad for those who are affected. Totally unnecssary. In keeping with the blame game, I blame Gestapo Gretchen for not being prepared.
My son has property near there. One access road to his property has washed out. He went up yesterday and took my generator with him. He has some pictures of nearby propeties flooded and flooded electrical distribution panels.
My sister in Texas called, yesterday, to see if we were affected. Our house is on some of the highest ground in the immediate area and I have a full walkout basement that I could burm with a plow. I tell folks if the water gets that high, our house would be on a small island.
When we built in 1985, my builder asked me how deep I wanted my basement. I told him I wanted the basement floor 12" higher than the ground we were standing on.
    He asked, "why so high"?
I said that I grew up in a swamp and flooded basements every year.
When the garage floor was poured, it was chest high to me when standing on the original grade. 8 steps up from the garage to get to the livingroom.
Great decision then, not so much now at our age, but we will manage.

  • I just know the she is going to bring former REP governor Rick Snyder into this, just like the Flint water fiasco, and try to blame HIM! Watch. Whitholm is making her obligatory self-serving daily speech today shortly but I just heard that since President Trump is coming to the Ford plant today, he will be making a trip to Midland to speak and survey the damage.

  • I'm about 75 clicks south of where all the flooding is going on and we only have lakes, ponds, streams, and creeks a little high but not at the flooding stage. Our actress/starlet, Field Marshal Gretchen Whit-less-holm has said she is "...going to make the people responsible pay...". She didn't get her 'fix the damn roads' campaign despite her efforts to cut money from every program including the state "Pure Michigan" program to promote tourism, so now she has taken upon herself to make all the decisions. Her daily ads to self promote her VP show are obvious. She never consults any legislators on the Cheena 19 issue; only uses her lackey/flunky staff for consult. She has 2 more years for her term. Her father was an attorney and the CEO of Blue Cross and her mother was an attorney as well. She was born with a silver spoon in her mouth -just like Pelosi; they don't have a clue what working for a living means and have more money they'll ever need in a lifetime.

  • Tim, from what I read here in a regional mullet wrapper the Edenville Dam was cited for unsafe conditions and the owners were required to add additional spillways to accommodate flood waters back in 2018. Failure to do so was a loss of hydro generating license and being required to drop the pond level by nine feet. It also said both dams were in the process of changing ownership. Who is remiss in failure to follow up on the 2018 report? Looks like some preferential treatment may be going on. Whenever I was in MI from WWII days on, the Dam Site Inn next to the Sanford Dam was a regular stop that many looked forward to, haven't been there in years and likely it no longer exists. We hear from folks in MI regularly about the nice Governess up there. Wife's niece and nephew were in the process of remodeling a vacation home and due to lockdown they were not allowed to be there!

  • Can you imagine the damage if they wouldn't have lowered the water level 8-9 feet and this hit? can actually go back and see Granholm was aware of the situation too.
