  • Red Neon Ford tractor sign
  • American pickers picked a Red neon Ford tractor sign for $4000 valued $6500.
They didn't seem to know it was Ford tractor. It needed the neon and refurbishing.

  • That's an old episode but those neon FORD TRACTOR dealer signs (any FORD really) go for big bucks at auctions. My buddy has one in his collection. COKER Tire has one in their shop. Dennis Carpenter has one too. In all the years I watched American Pickers, I only saw one episode where they picked some Ford Tractors. I saw plenty of times they'd be in a junkyard or shop and walk right by what could be a vintage Ford. Mike is heavy on bicycles, motorcycles, and signs; Frank is heavy on toys, oil cans, and old gas pumps. They go ga-ga over vintage cars and trucks but neglect vintage tractors. Oh, well, it's their show. I wrote them a letter once asking why they don't have an interest in tractors and got no reply. They did send me an email saying they were coming to my area in a few months at an auction service. We arranged to meet where they were going to be – at the local auction house. So I met Mike & Frank, this was about twelve years ago when they came to our area. We have a little mom & pop grocery store here in our small town. There’s just the store, a bump shop, a machine shop, a pizza place, a Post Office, and an auction house. The auction house is owned and run by one of the sons. There is an old large barn, outbuildings, and front office building where he stores his salvaged items. The guys had been arranged by Danielle to come see a Model A he had for sale. The spent several hours looking at the car and going thru the other stored items. I got to meet them, and asked about why no tractors. Mike said they do get some once in a while but don’t know much about the vintage tractors and leave them up to the guys who do like MECUM. They are very pleasant and cool guys. Gave me autographed pictures.

  • I recall the episode in which they bought the red oval FORD tractor sign (along with several others), and then delivered that sign to Coker Tire's museum. The guys are obviously all buddy's as there's been other episodes that Coker was in, one I recall in which the guys sold Coker a vintage auto.

  • I have always wondered where they get their "valued" price...

  • Yes I too wonder about the pricing. They often quote way to high but when negotiating they seem to end up paying well under a fair price especially Frank. It's just a TV show, they go coast to coast buying items a few here a few there, When they done they usually don't seem to have enough in that van to pay for the gas let alone travel expenses.

  • The Picker's have really ruined the collector's market by over paying for many items. They can over pay because they do very well at both of their stores, and they make a lot of money for each episode of the show. Many of the long distance "picks" involve transporting the picker's and camera crew's vans by flatbed, and the crew flies in to produce the footage. People that they "pick" are contacted beforehand to find out what types of items they have, and if they will be willing to sell. It is fun to watch to see the piles of stuff people accumulate, and sell for a profit. Prices for antique petrolianna, signs, gas pumps, ECO air meters and oil cans have skyrocketed.

  • Its like the program where a guy gets his snowmobile stuck out in the wilderness and is trying to dig a shelter for the night to survive..My wife says she hopes he survives the night and I say I hope the camera man digs one too..

Adn don't get me started on Pawn Stars!!

  • HAHAHAHA!!! Yep Reality TV -gotta love it. Ditto with "Naked & Afraid". Hope the cameraman has a loaded gun in his truck at night when those gators, crocs, jags, lions, tigers, and bears are prowling around. I like "Dual Survival"; "Mountain Men"; and the one with guys all alone in the middle of winter.
