  • You won't see this on any mainstream media sites, but rock icon Tommy Cartmell, aka 'Alto Reed' woodwinds/saxophone musician passed away on DEC 30 from colon cancer at 72. Reed was the sax/horn player in The Silver Bullet Band, Bob Segers' group for over 50 years. Probably best ow for his solos on "Turn Page Page" and "Old Time Rock & Roll", my personal favorite is their version of "I've Been working", a Van Morrison tune from their "Back In '72" and "Live Bullet" albums. Both "Page" and "Old Time" have been killed by over-exposed commercialized overplay by the media but his best work is on other tunes that don't get played, like "Working'" as I mentioned. RIP Alto, you were one of the best.

  • Thank you for posting this. I have been a Bob Seger / Silver Bullet Band fan since I was young. I have seen them in concert 3 times. Always a fan of Alto. A true loss of a great talent.
