  • Venezuela has a year-round growing season. To not be able to feed its people is a travesty. Is there any stronger of an underscore to how socialism, or ANY govt. intervention into the food production system is counter-productive at best and disastrous as a norm.

In 30 years, the socialists have taken Venezuela from being the wealthiest nation in that region to the poorest - one that cannot even feed its people or provide them with basic things like toilet paper. But then again, if you're not eating, I guess you don't need the TP, huh?

  • It is hard to believe that 29 years ago I went to Venezuela on assignment for GM. I flew into Caracas and was driven in the dark to Valencia. Then two days later to Mariara and back to Valencia. Then Friday morning back to Caracas to fly home. Thankfully, I was only there for one week. I still have some Bolivars that became worthless not long after I was there.
A side note, at Mariara, there were armed guards at the gate going into the GM assembly plant. I had to open my briefcase while a guard used an under car mirror. Meantime, there were two employees edging a sidewalk about 40 feet away using...machetes.
I let both my passport and my international drivers license expire.
