  • A very interesting statistic would be how much money does Californika pay into the Federal Government, vs how much money does Californika receive from the Federal Government. There are probably millions and millions of hidden subsidies and grants and things, but it would still be interesting to see the big numbers...

  • As I live in Palo Alto, California, I keep up with the general issues here in our state. Last I read we provide the Federal government about Three Hundred Forty Billion dollars each year. Of that we receive approximately 70% back in the form of subsidies, grants and other Federal programs. So our net contribution to the country is about One Hundred thirteen Billion dollars each year.

  • That is an interesting statistic. No wonder the state was looking to secede. I also wonder how that compares to other states. Seems like it takes a lot to run our fed government these days. That was the worst fears of our early patriots, that the federal government would become all consuming and the states would loose their control and money. I read a book called the Lees of Stratford Hall, which was about the early days of Virginia. Our current situation is almost exactly what they described as their biggest fear of a federal government.

  • Actually I woke up this morning deciding to do a little research on that number which I believe I had seen on the web site for the secessionist movement. Could not find that again as the movement seems to be suspended, but I did find reference to the Stale Legislative Analyst's report for 2016 which showed that California remitted Three Hundred Sixty Nine Billion while the Feds spent Three Hundred Fifty Six Billion so there was only a 13 Billion difference in the Fed's favor. So the 70% number appears exaggerated (I should have checked before posting).

A full estimate of the differences between individual states dollars given versus gotten is in a Politifact report www.politifact.com/california/article/2017/feb/.../does-california-give-more-it-gets-dc...

  • Paste this into the Browser search are then click on the article when the Politifact page comes up.

There is a chart midway down showing each state's situation. Virginia gets the most from the Feds.

  • No insult intended to hard working Virginians but it is a suburb of DC.

  • Nearly half the land in California is federally owned, (says the article) and the greatest percentage of that is in National Forests.

So if Kalifornie.. don't want to put out the fires... 5,000 acres - 17% contained
Can I ASSUME that the other Half of the State will burn? Or do they wait till the Fire Jumps the imaginary line and Call the Fire Department? Either way they will want the Feds (our tax money) to pay for everything and more than likely to Rebuild everything that is burned.
I heard somewhere they wanted to Pull out of the US and be on their own.. Well now is as good as time as any. If that's the case, Why would the Feds want to rebuild a neighboring State/Country..
