  • Sex Scandals
  • Since all these incidents have come to light in the past few years, more so in the last year alone, I can't but wonder, why now? It seems like we hear of something/someone new everyday now. Don't misunderstand me. I do not condone nor support these creeps who abuse their power doing sex crimes to women, children, and even men too. If a woman doesn't want to be groped or touched sexually in the workplace or any other place, yes, that is proper. I have to ask why now though? If, at the time of their encounters, they felt they were inappropriately touched, groped, or forced to perform sex acts upon, didn't they report it then? I can see a minor child feeling threatened and/or ashamed to report it, but any adult woman who felt they were wrongly sexually assaulted, didn't they report to their boss or even the police? Could it be that they didn't want to jeopardize the advancement of their careers/jobs/promotions et al? Ever since the Bill Cosby incident I have wondered why now. Why are they coming forward now? To destroy what life/career these guys have left? OK, put them out of business, that's fine. Some of these women were paid to keep quite too. It seems there should be a statute of limitations on when one can make claims of sexual harassment/sexual abuse against another. Maybe there are laws already, that there is no limitation to sex crimes, I don't know, I don't watch 'Law & Order'.

  • My opinion
  • I find it offensive that many in Congress have sexually abused their staff. Equally bad it OUR tax money is used to pay off the offended ones. Comes along a big so called head line story about President Trump and the Porn star. Personally I think it's a story that is fabricated. Fabricated to off set the bad news about Congress. Another story to deflect from bad press else where. So to my point, all these so called pious fools in Congress can abuse their staff and very little is done to stop that from happening UNTIL someone gets caught. Expose each and every offender in Congress, publicize the amounts paid from the slush fund and make the guilty ones pay every penny back while resigning from Congress. NO EXCEPTIONS. Maybe play hard ball like the IRS and add penalties and interest to these $$$$ amounts. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

  • Re: My opinion
  • I am about to have my 69th birthday. In my lifetime I have seen things go from overly prude to anything goes as far as sexual permissiveness is concerned.

My main thinking says that NO means NO, not maybe. This goes back to what my mother taught me. My dad didn't say this in so many words, but my parents treated one another with a certain amount of respect that set the pace for me growing up.

Now to my personal observations. In the work place there are those who invite problems. I am no saying the woman is to blame, but the woman who wears inappropriate outfits should know better. If they wear something that displays the navel from the top of the blouse, that's an invitation for someone to look. It is a simple and normal reaction. You should get my drift here.

I understand it's not fun having to work in a place and act like robots. Joking and having a family like atmosphere is healthy. After all, we spend more time at work than at home in many cases.

As others have said, why now? Instead of when it happened. I don't know. I do know this is not new, men and women have been doing these things since they first discovered they are different.

I know I have not solved any problems, and I sound like I'm blaming women (I'm not). I do know from my own experiences that a dirty look or a slap in the face will pretty much settle me down if I say or do something not quite right. I would sure hate to be 20-something and dating right now, knowing that 40 years in the future I will be accused of doing something I can't even remember.

  • Well said. You make several points exactly as I was thinking. For some reason the old saying live by the sword, die by the sword keeps comming to mind. When did the hollywood types become our social guide? I have always thought that hollywood morals were quite lacking, and now all of a sudden they wany our sympathy.
Do not get me wrong, I think it is horrible that some old fart takes advantage of their position and abuses their authority, but hollywood morals are lacking to say the least. To me it is a lot like someone drinking vodka all night and then being suprised that they got drunk. You should know better.
If you go to a party where everyone is looking for a one night stand, don't be suprised if someone offers you a one night stand. Don't get me wrong again, if someone says no, you should respect that, no question. But you also need to be careful of what circles you teavel in...

  • Hey, Larry. I keep telling my wife we are having fun. She is not quite so sure. We will travel to New Braunfels Feb 8 through Feb 14 for a small family reunion.

  • New Braunfels is one heck of a great place to visit and have a lot of fun in, but both rivers will be much too cold to get into in February. Get whoever you're staying with to take you over to Gruene to visit Texas's oldest dance hall and see all the neat little shops, etc. Also, take a drive up River Road alongside the Guadalupe River all the way to Sattler Texas for an enjoyable scenic ride.

In our younger years, we'd go there annually (that's about 180 miles west of us) to camp out along the Guadalupe and take the long tube trips down the same, sometimes doing it twice a day. Depending on how much water is being released from Canyon Lake through the dam, we've enjoyed tube rides that are near all day, or rougher'n a cob, hold on to what you got 10 man raft rides that take less than an hour.

Whatever you and your wife get into while there, I know you'll enjoy yourselves!

  • Thanx. Larry. We will fly for 3+ hours vs driving for 3 plus days. BTDT.
I have two sisters who live there and we have been visiting every February for about 15 years. It gives us a little break from Michigan winters. We go to Gruene (pronounced "green" for the unknowing) every trip. We also do some side trips. We were in Houston last Feb. to the Johnson Space Center. In past years we have gone to Fredricksburg, Boerne, Kerrville (where my nephew went to Shriner College), of course San Antonio and Austin.
We were also in Bastrop last year where my nephew and his wife now live.
My wife's brother has a winter place in Donna, Tx., just east of McAllen and we have toured around there and journeyed to Mexico as well as having pulled a travel trailer down there from Michigan twice.
My wife also has a cousin who spends part of the winter on South Padre Island and we visited there one winter.
I have a cousin in Des Moines, Iowa who has 2 daughters in the greater Dallas area. On one of our trailer trips we visited there as well.
My youngest sister's daughter and her family are moving from ND to Colo. and will be in Texas at the same time, thus, family reunion.
