  • Electoral College Wisdom
  • This is a keeper!

After Nov 8, 2016 Presidential Election, those who did not vote for our President Trump, IMMEDIATELY began the rhetoric of editing the Electoral College processes/boundaries. Believe this occurs several times during each Century!

Within the past 50 years, our Country's foundation has been challenged. The Electoral College is but one of our Country's "deer in the headlights! "

This break-down of the Electoral College vote is our “checks and balances ”.

This is so important for our future that it is never changed.
In their infinite wisdom, the founders of our country created a structure called the "Electoral College" as a control system and to ensure the individual states were fairly represented. Otherwise one or two densely populated areas would speak for the whole of the nation. It was not created as a device to favor Democrats, Republicans, Whigs, Tories or any other political affiliation. It was created as a system of "checks and balances " to guard against any small vocal area, with a specific agenda, speaking for the whole of the nation.
The following list of statistics should put an end to the argument as to why the Electoral College makes sense.

There are 3,141 counties in the United States.

    Trump won 3,084 of them.
    Clinton won 57.

There are 62 counties in New York State.

    Trump won 46 of them.
    Clinton won 16.

Clinton won the popular vote by approx. 1.5 million votes.

In the 5 counties that encompass NYC (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Richmond & Queens) Clinton received well over 2 million more votes than Trump.

In other words, Five (5) counties alone , more than accounted for Clinton winning the popular vote for the entire country!!!

These 5 counties comprise 319 square miles.
The United States is comprised of 3,797,000 square miles.

When you have a country that encompasses almost 4 million square miles of territory, it would be ludicrous to even suggest that the vote of those who inhabit a mere 319 square miles should dictate the outcome of a national election.

Large, densely populated cities (NYC, Chicago, LA, etc.) do not and should not speak for the rest of our country (They already do in some of our states ) ... and somehow the geniuses who founded our country understood this and created a system to avoid that circumstance.

And now you understand the supreme importance of the Electoral College .

Do share this... It needs to be understood.

  • The latest story is that California is moving far,far left. That Jerry Brown is too conservative.
Every nutty law that restricts freedom in one way or another, starts in California. It's rapidly becoming a third world country where the rich live a decadent life and workers live in poverty because housing is so high. High tech quality workers can't afford to do more than exist.
Even their jobs are in danger as companies such as Apple, Google etc. want to hire foreign workers because those companies claim labor costs are too high and there is a dearth of qualified workers.
If we rid ourselves of the electoral college the country would soon be subjected to the same insanity as residents of New York City and California.

  • In California, for instance, a home can be invaded by thieves, and the residents cannot use a firearm unless they can prove that they legitimately feared for their lives and there was no escape avenue available. To my mind, this sort of law constitutes an incentive to criminals, for it reduces the risk of a home invasion.

  • You've got to look at it from a liberal's point of view: EVERYONE has a right to a safe working environment!

  • Yes, good info and the same system should be in place for state elections as well IMHO. In the state of CO, the large metropolitan cities on one side of the state control the vote and that is not right. It's just nuts.

  • Same thing here in Virginia. The large influx of liberals from NY, NJ, CT, etc. to Northern Virginia to firmly clamp their teeth on the federal teat that feeds them our tax dollars via employment and govt. contracts, has turned our state blue for state-wide elections. The only way we can hold them off is to retain control of the House Of Delegates and chairmanships of the committees so we can nuke their liberal agenda.

  • Counties, as well as states, have figured out how to use the densely populated areas to get special assessments (tax increases) that affect county wide properties but benefit primarily the dense population area. A "small" millage added to other "small" millages, plus property assessment increases, add up to some hefty annual property tax bills.
I am in a semi-rural area. We have an expanded bus system that does not reach me or reasonably near me. Yet, we have these 45 foot buses running around, mostly empty, and interfering with normal vehicle traffic because they block the right lane at stops.
There is another issue pending to assess higher "tipping" fees for trash haulers which will add to my rubbish cost. Trucks are coming from Canada every day with their trash. Can we tax Canada?

  • I hear ya, bro. I am near I-69 and use it all the time. It runs east to west from Port Huron to Flint, with me half way between them, then on to Lansing before turning southbound toward Indiana. The Canadien garbage haulers are always there as well as other Canadien commerce vehicles. It was the former governor, Jenny Granholm, a natural born Canadien citizen, who legislated to have them come here with tax incentives. This is a bit off the topic, but I was watching 'Hockey Night In Canada' this past Saturday as I usually do, and I cold not believe my ears when I heard Ron McLean say the word 'African-Canadien' as they were honoring all the black players that played or are playing in the NHL. So, to that, from now on I am...

  • Tim,

    Are you full blooded Irish?

Like me stating I am Swiss- British by only using my mother’s nationality and forgetting the German on my fathers side. By the way I am a immigrant.

  • No, I'm not 100% Irish. Mother was born a Sullivan with some Scottish heritage mixed in. Dad had some others I'm doing research on as well. My point is why don't we all start using our ancestry monikers. We are Americans plain and simple. The fact blacks don't want to be called Negroes is ludicrous. I can understand the term 'colored' but then if that is so offensive then why don't they change the NAACP name???

    Irish-American deplorable

  • NAACP was started by Jewish people. Have no idea how they came up with the name but I am sure there is money in it for them.
