  • Deep State question
  • Some of you are better educated than I am about our government. I learned the basics but I have never been emersed in details.
Are all Federal employees, elected, appointed or hired, required to take an oath which includes, "...to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution..."? Also, isn't there a law that deals with persons promoting/encouraging/attempting to overthrow our government?
There, to me, is the rub with deep staters. What is it that I don't understand other than that we currently have a US Attorney General, in name only?
    Not too old to learn.

  • There is no deep state - just 2 million career civil servants who are an integral part of the constitutional balance of powers and by that design largely protected from political pressure, intimidation, and manipulation by partisan elected officials. They all take the same oath of office:

    Oath of office

An individual, except the President, elected or appointed to an office of honor or profit in the civil service or uniformed services, shall take the following oath: I, -, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

  • S-o-o-o-o, that sounds to me like a lot of people need their butts kicked! When my kids were younger, I ocassionally used the butt as the shortest distance to the brain. Always got their attention. I even had a paddle on the desk that was labled "Board of Education". Never used it, but they believed. All 3 are educated and productive. We have one who differs in political and social views, but we always defend that right.

  • Interesting you should mention the overthrow of our government. I was just wondering the same thing. In my opinion the democrats with the mainstream media have been trying to overthrow our government ever since they lost the election. Think about it, what else could they possibly do to undermine our President. They have already tried most everything, including a bit of violance...

  • Not sure why Sessons will not step up to bat but, I always felt he was playing both sides of the fence. He could not be accused of being a Pres. Trump supporter if anything ever went wrong. Kinda like job security. Sad that the Pres never did replace him from the start. Maybe he mught be the fall guy if things go bad For Muller.

  • When I entered the military I took such an oath that BTW has not expired. It's still in effect. I've served on several local commissions and had to take a similar oath when entering the commission. They, also, never expire. The problem as I see it is: the higher up the power ladder you go the easier it is to be corrupted and influenced by money and greed.
I've advocated for years that term limits should be the law of the land. Once you've stayed your limit you are forbidden further engagement in government for a period of 10 years. NO involvement at all, nothing, nada, zilch, period.

  • Baring revolution or total collapse/reconstruction, you will never see term limits.

  • I, too, was in the military. I was also a trustee on my local Board of Education, elected to one 4 year term and appointed to one year to fill a vacancy until the next election. Believe me, that was enough. Yup, took the oath.
