  • Odessa-Deep State
  • I'm watching the movie, "The Odessa File". I have never seen it before. If you haven't seen it, check it out. I got a bit spooked listening to/watching the early scenes.

  • I was looking for something decent to watch on TV last night instead of the usual crap that was on, so searched my ON Demand FREE MOVIE list and saw "The Odessa File" on the Turner channel listed so I finally got to watch it. Back in the days of WWII, many movies and TV shows had themes and topics on the hatred of Nazism. I love the old b/w Sherlock Holmes adventures starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, A few of their movies were about dealing with Nazi spies. There were a few Three Stooges episodes, then shown in movie house as shorts, also with Nazi topics. I recall some vintage cartoons as well with the same anti-Nazi themes. There were no doubt many German people, and some military personnel too, who were anti-Hitler/anti-Nazism. They were no doubt scared to voice their concerns for fear of being exposed and shot by the SS. There was a Tom Cruise movie, “Valkyrie” that was based on a true story of exactly this, and a secret plot to assassinate Hitler was plotted.

  • I wanted to watch that, I've always liked Jon Voight since 'Deliverance' ..."..DREW!!! I had a busy day and fell asleep about 19.30. I'm also a WWII fanatic as well so will watch just about anything related to that topic except any new crap with the latest bunch of lousy actor/political nosebleeds. Might have to get a copy on DVD. I recently acquired a DVD of one of my favorite WWII vintage movies, "The Dam Busters" based on the true events o the British to develop a bomb that could take out their dams. The story is a good one - well worth the price of admission. I buy DVDs I like and keep in my library. Other faves are "Midway"; "TORA! TORA! TORA!"; "Battle of Britain"; "PATTON"; and "Bridge On The River Kwai" to name a few.

  • I've seen and love all of those films, Tim.

Bridge ON The River Kwai, though fiction is on my list of 5 or 10 greatest Hollywood movies, right up there with Gone With The Wind, Casablanca, and The Wizard of Oz.

Another fictional WWII film worthy of your time is Marlena Dietrich's last feature film, Judgment at Nuremburg. She turns in a great performance in her last role.

  • Yes indeed. I forgot about "The Guns of Navarone" and the sequel, "Force 10 From Navarone". There is also "Twelve O'Clock High", "Where Eagles Dare", and "The Longest Day". Though with a WW II timeline, the fictional "Kelly's Heroes" is good for some laughs. It was tongue-in-cheek an anti Vietnam movie as the director had been blackballed during the McCarthy era. Don't care for anything made in last 20 years or so. "Saving Private Ryan" had the beginning very realistic, but I don't care for Hanks nor the rest of the story. Bridge/Kwai had its famous Col. Nicholson's Theme being whistled all the time by me and my brother after seeing it in the 60's at a drive-in.

  • The British colonel was trying to maintain discipline in his defeated ranks.

Yes, he took such to the extreme, and, yes, the story is fiction, though based upon historical facts.

    Enjoy.

  • Re: Odessa-Deep State
  • I googled Odessa Deep State and got a lot of commentary about just "deep state".
I find Wikipedia's definitions most curious.
Not once in their detailed descriptions and references did they mention the contribution of lobbyists and special interest groups into the mix.
I firmly believe that the deep state exists because Monsanto and GE want it to exist... and many others.

  • The deep state exists because the deep state wants it to exist.

It has little to do with the private sector.

  • I think that if you search each separately you will get some better data.
