  • GM
  • Mister Obama gave GM 80.5 BILLION $ to build a factory in china.
Where did he get the money? He borrowed it from China.
GM is shutting down many plants here and laying of thousands of workers.
Check (GM China) and (China Motors). The past CEO of GM told Chinas Premier
they will build 70 percent of the GM vehicles.

  • The reasons given are to obsolete the vehicles that don't sell, Volt, Impala, and Cruze, and the plants they are made in in order to concentrate efforts on Electric and Self Driving autos. The VOLT was disaster from the start. It was only made to satisfy the liberal number crunchers in Washington. The Cruze and Impala were big sellers two years ago. President Trump said he is thinking about revoking all GM subsidies now. GM got way too big for their britches decades ago. Owe's bailing out was a huge mistake as we all plainly see now. It was simply a ruse to dismantle the union to a major degree, not that I am pro-union, I'm not. They should have let them fail 10 years ago. Really? Self driving cars? Not for me; it'll take 30 more years to work out all the bugs. All these 'ideas' coming from the current young 'engineers' working there. They cannot function without a PC in front of them, don't know what a sliderule is, and have no imagination like the designers we grew up with had. Oh, yeah, we have such innovative vehicle names like Colorado, Avalanche, Tahoe, and such. What's next the Sunfish, Giraffe, and Labra-Poodle? Next we'll have cars and trucks with names of states -watch for the New Mexico, the Californian, and the Idaho to hit. We already have the Montana.

GM would never have developed the Volt, knowing full well that it would not sell without HUGE subsidies, and that they would loose money on every one sold. As you say, such development was to keep the greenies in DC off their back for awhile.

Regarding the bankruptcy: Obama should have stayed out of and allowed the federal bankruptcy laws to work as required of just about all other companies. That said, barry did not intervene to dismantle the union but rather to save his dem voting union buddies at the expense of the salaried staff and common stockholders.

  • They are planning to close a plant in Oshawa ON. The workers are not happy. GM has had problems with its pension plan being underfunded from over 30 years ago.
The money they received from the US Govt. helped prop that up. It smells a bit fishy to me.
But I am still grumpy from when they closed the Saturn line.

  • Having spent a lot of time in Oshawa for GM Powertrain I know that there are/were 3 assembly plants in Oshawa. When I was going there two plants were building the GM A body cars (plants A and B) and the third plant was building pick-ups.
There is/was also stamping and a battery plant there. On top of that, the GM of Canada offices are in Oshawa.
There was also, at one time, an assembly plant in Scarboro (closed), a suburb of Toronto. They built the G van.
Further, an assembly plant was in St Terese that built the F body, Firebird and Camero.
Having been retired for over 11 years, I have no idea of the curent status of these plants.
I used to go to Baltimore for the M-van (was there for the startup)
I used to go to Wilmington, Deleware, Linden N.J. (closed), N. Tarrytown N.Y. (closed) and Framingham, MA (closed)
I watched GMAD, Ypsilanti, Mi close and go to Arlington, Texas.
I have been to Lordstown, now in the news.
I did visit Wentzville Missouri and Kansas City plants.
Lastly I was in Oklahoma, Arlington and Van Nuys plants.
SO...keep me out of GM assembly plants!!!
ps Also had to make a trip to Venezuela, ONCE. Valencia and Mariara (sp).
Lastly, as a GM salaried retiree, the only thing that I am getting FROM GM after 30 years are car dicounts. Whoopii!

  • Also a GN retiree, John.

As you know, the GM vehicle discount is FAR from what it once was.

The last time I bought a car, about two years ago, I actually negotiated a better deal without my discount than I could with it. That has never before happened.

  • Re: GM
  • I did the same last May on a Chevy Spark. Employee discount was pittance. I had over $3000 of GM Mastercard "funny money" and $2000 dealer incentive for a new 2017 car. Out the door for $13,200, total, including tax, title and license plate.

  • Look around
  • Look at all the new Automobiles, Campers, Boats, etc. sitting on
Dealers lots and places they rent for storing their products.
There are Many millions of them, unsold. Recession is coming.
They are over producing and the foreign manufactures are under
    selling them with lower prices.

  • 'Winter is Coming'

“GM’s timing on this outrageous decision could not have been worse,” he said in a statement. “On the same day GM is laying off workers in Youngstown, the company is bypassing American workers and sending more jobs to Mexico. GM should reverse this irresponsible decision, and use its tax windfall to invest in American workers.”

The statement from Brown noted GM benefited from the national tax reform Republicans implemented earlier this year.

Brown’s office said GM was “able to bring their $6.9 billion in overseas cash back to the U.S. at less than half of the tax rate the corporation would formerly have paid and immediately deduct the cost of any new investments in plant and equipment.

“Despite these tax cuts and the company’s record revenues as reported in their 2016 SEC filing, GM is still moving forward with these layoffs,” Brown added.

Individual #1 won Mich by only 0.2% just 10,704 votes. That state will turn BLUE in 2020
