Democrats paid for a wall ... in Jordan
By Jennifer Harper - The Washington Times - Wednesday, January 9, 2019
Those with long memories have recalled that prominent Democrats — including Sen. Charles E. Schumer and then-Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton — once heartily approved of funding a barrier wall on the southern U.S. border. Indeed, there are multiple records of their sentiments from back in the day, when the earnest lawmakers embraced border security without gusto. Now comes Part Two.

“Democrats funded a 287-mile wall in Jordan last year — but won’t fund a border wall in the U.S.,” writes Gateway Pundit Jim Hoft. “Nancy Pelosi argued this week that ‘walls are immoral.’ Chuck Schumer called President Trump’s stand against open borders a ‘manufactured crisis.’ But less than one year ago Pelosi and Schumer approved funding on a 287 mile long border wall — in Jordan.”

He cites information that offers the proof.

“The 2018 omnibus spending bill provides just enough funds to build 33 miles of fencing on the Texas border — but it also provides $500 million to help Jordan build a wall and defense line against jihad terrorists trying to cross its 287-mile border with Iraq and Syria,” Brietbart.com analyst Neil Munro wrote in a report published March 22, 2018.

“The omnibus budget says on page 394: SEC. 9011. Up to $500,000,000 of funds appropriated by this Act for the Defense Security Cooperation Agency in ”Operation and Maintenance, Defense-Wide’ may be used to provide assistance to the Government of Jordan to support the armed forces of Jordan and to enhance security along its borders,” Mr. Munro noted.

“Democrats had no problem funding the wall in Jordan. It was not an ‘immoral wall.’ And that was only 10 months ago,” observes Mr. Hoft.

  • I'm confused by the article. “A physical barrier, whether it's fencing, steel slats or a concrete wall, would keep out people who are willing to play by the rules”
...willing to play by the rules...
I thought playing by the rules meant following the law.

  • First for me. Now I'm cute. All this time I thought I was an ugly right wing, sexist and all of those other "ist" words that I had never heard of and don't remember. Is a person trying to be civil a "civilist"? LOL

  • Reason enough to give in, according to some on the loonie left. Leaving then real work to real people.
So Paul. What do you propose? What changes to the immigration and refugee rules, would you like to see? Should the US be run by, and or cater to illegal folks from other countries?
I crossed the border two times today. Always nice to do that legally, with a Trusted Traveler ( Nexus ) card.
Store in Blaine WA takes Canadian cash, and returns change in Canadian currency.
    Quite civilized I think.

  • Did you ever see a plan for the $150 BILLION that Pelosi, Schumer, and da big Owe sent to Iran? Did you whine about that as much as you've whined about the equivalent of a rounding error in our annual expenditures, snowflake?

  • Nirvana Fallacy - (also known as: perfect solution fallacy, perfectionist fallacy)

Description: Comparing a realistic solution with an idealized one, and discounting or even dismissing the realistic solution as a result of comparing to a “perfect world” or impossible standard. Ignoring the fact that improvements are often good enough reason.

    Logical Form:
    X is what we have.
    Y is the perfect situation.
Therefore, X is not good enough.

    Example #1:
What’s the point of making drinking illegal under the age of 21? Kids still manage to get alcohol.
Explanation: The goal in setting a minimum age for drinking is to deter underage drinking, not abolish it completely. Suggesting the law is fruitless based on its failure to abolish underage drinking completely, is fallacious.

    Example #2:
What’s the point of living? We’re all going to die anyway.
Explanation: There is an implication that the goal of life is not dying. While that is certainly a worthwhile goal, many would argue that it is a bit empty on its own, creating this fallacy where one does not really exist.
Exception: Striving for perfection is not the same as the nirvana fallacy. Having a goal of perfection or near perfection, and working towards that goal, is admirable. However, giving up on the goal because perfection is not attained, despite major improvements being attained, is fallacious.
Tip: Sometimes good enough is really good enough.

    Example #3:
“Building a border wall will not keep all illegal immigrants out of our country because tunnels can be dug, planes can fly over it and ladders can be used to climb over it. Unless a border wall is perfect at keeping out all illegal aliens, it should not be built.”

We've seen a lot of this lately from our new pet troll here

  • Re: The Dem's paid for the wall!!!!!
  • Like Jim Acosta he is making a point for the wall! They are finding unfinished tunnels so the wall that currently exists is forcing illegals to find other ways to cross the border and the wall allows law enforcement to focus on those other methods that are being used.

  • I agree with you, Paul, except the last sentence.
Locks don't stop all theft either, but they confine it to the unlawful, leaving the officials to only have to chase about 20% as many. Combined with other means, locks and fences, or walls, do reduce the severity greatly.

  • It is simply impossible to make up the nonsense, Ed.

Are you ready for the latest?

It seems that AOC has been appointed to the House Financial Services Committee, chaired by (Are you ready for this?) Maxine Waters.

    You've just gotta love it....
