  • Clinton Russian Links Go Back to 1992 Election.
  • I am always reading books, with at least two or three going at the same time, novels and technical, and one I just finished was “Play On”, written by Mick Fleetwood. It is an updated version of the story of the blues, then rock band Fleetwood Mac of which he was one of the founders in 1967. Fleetwood was the drummer and bass player John McVie, both citizens of the UK, were the nucleus of the band for all the years of their tenure. Anyway, it is well documented that when Bill Clinton ran for president in 1992, he used their hit from 1977, “Don’t Stop” as his campaign song and convinced the band to come out of retirement to play it at his 1993 inauguration. The English band members had relocated to the US now all living in LA. Not sure if they became US citizens or not but they were all democratic supporters. What I did not know until I read it in this book, is that Fleetwood had some shady dealings with the Russians back then in 1992. Fleetwood had befriended a sleazy partner who was to finance a string of restaurants and the first opened in LA but was not issued a liquor license because this partner was connected to the Gambino family. Fleetwood goes on to say that they sought new investors and were introduced to some of the first Russians who were coming over to the US looking to invest in property and other ventures. Is it a coincidence these new investors were met at the same time Fleetwood and group had befriending the Clintons? Mick and an associate US investor friend traveled to Moscow to seek Russian investors interested in opening a club there. The Russians they met were mostly all ex-KGB members, and he says, Putin was one of them, and wanted to purchase 747’s, military submarines, jets, tanks, and vehicles to supply their South American contacts with the means to conduct clandestine operations: meaning drug and people smuggling. It isn’t clear if anything ever became of this. I was and still am a big Fleetwood Mac fan, but only the early days with Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, and Danny Kirwin all on guitar. Christine Perfect had joined the group on keys and vocals and eventually married John McVie. I always liked her vocals and songwriting. After they had begun hanging out in LA after 1970, they had met Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks and were asked to join the band. The rest is history as they had several million selling albums and hits after. BUT, I could never stand Stevie Nick’s singing. Her vibrato style sounds like a stuck sheep –baaa-baaa-baaa. In never listened to them after that and certainly didn’t buy any of their records, as they became too commercial and lost the blues-based Peter Green style I love so much. The last F-Mac album I ever bought was ‘Bare Trees’. I thought I new everything about the band til this chapter. Previous F-Mac books never talked about this. Now with the 'collusion' investigation all but over, as I and others have suspected all along, the Klint-Tons are no doubt linked to the Russians but we may never know the details for 50 years; kinda like the Warren Commission.
