  • What its like this morning
  • I live in Palo Alto, California and we have been in shutdown now for over a week. The San Francisco Bay area went into it last Friday and was the first to do so. Santa Clara County has been one of the most active in cases since things started. A couple of days ago the entire state followed with a general close down.

So what is it like out here, well it is quiet that is for sure. We suffer with twenty mile commutes that take an hour normally here with all the big tech firms in our area. Now it feels like 30 years ago. We are not locked in our houses, my wife and I walk a couple of miles most mornings around the town. I go over to my shop and work a couple of hours on #292, we go to the market for groceries and we move six feet or so when passing others. This morning I took our daughter's cat to the vet in Los Gatos. Had to remain in the car and check in by phone from the parking lot and a tech came out and picked up the critter then later returned him in a kind of curbside service. Libraries and schools and non-essential businesses are closed. I'm watching lots of TV and reading the NY Times. I'm not upset with Trump, he's trying his best, but I would advise paying attention to Dr. Fauchi on the daily briefings and whenever he is speaking on news shows-he is down to earth and really knows what is going on.

I expect that history will sort out who did what and when and level a judgement, but right now I'm off politics for the time being. Wish everyone the best and wash your hands a lot.

  • About the same here as others have mentioned except for the beaches. I recorded 19* at 5am. Polar bear weather.
Wife was just commenting on how quiet it seemed. I said it is Sunday, it should be quiet. (I've always been a proponant of businesses being closed on Sunday.)
I have several projects to keep me busy. Or, sit here and read this and other websites. Never boring.
I just called a cousin whom I have not talked to in years. We lost one Friday who was 92, not a covid-19 issue. Kinda makes you think about others whom you have not seen or talked to in years.
    Make that a project.

  • Well let's see.
Still working on projects outside. Still going to town to buy parts.
Grocery store is missing a few things, stupid flat-landers, not much has changed.
Movie houses and restaurants are closed down so that is just saving me money to spend on projects. With God's blessing, the various checks coming in and life is good on this end.

  • We have the same closures and restrictions as most places. Shirley came home from Peru last Sunday. On Monday they shut everything down. 900 Canadians are still there and stuck. We are kind of quarantined on my Island, and were feeling secure and waiting to see if the city across the bay would have any sick folk. None so far. Then I found out there are Chinese folk who visit a private island just off the bottom of our Island. They need to travel back and forth for supplies.

At my place 1/4 mile up the road, I picked a good year to build my cottage. We made no plans for any trips for a while. As long as I can get concrete and supplies all is good.

  • As of Monday at 8 pm CT closes all non essential businesses. Will have to see how this goes. 2 cases reported at this time in our county but who knows real numbers without testing. Schools have been closed all week. They start distance learning on Monday. I would be surprised if they opened the schools again until the start of next year. Feel bad for my oldest son as he is set to graduate this year. Might not have a formal graduation exercise.

  • Interesting, here in E Central FL people are not allowed into restaurants but many have take out. Bars and clubs shut down. all schools down and some for the year. I-95 booming at its normal high capacity. Public buildings shut down, food stores are open. I went to Wally World Th eve as I needed some paint and food stocks. Eerie in there, all well stocked except dry cereal aisle was bare just 3 boxes of rice chex, bought one as the rabbits like bite size shredded wheat for treats and we are out, hope they like rice. the Deli closed, in drug section stocked but just a very few odd vitamins remained there. Food section was very busy but only a few folks in the rest of the store. no slow down in the spring breakers so the county closed the beach to car traffic, seems to alleviated the gathering of big crazy crowds. I know two local folks with the virus, one self quarantined as he picked it up in Italy couple of weeks ago. Other is a community spread case and home bound, they are well. My Dr, an older fellow that never has been ill thinks he also had it. Traveled recently and came down with the fever and symptoms so he stayed home for two weeks. No tests then so he will not know for sure,
