  • This is driving me crazy. May be a short trip.
  • This virus thing is out of control.
The Governor of Virginia is clueless.
The news media is worse then clueless.
They report that there were just 2 new cases here and 4 new cases there. But everyone stay at home and you will be fine.. But non-essential business keep on working. Go to Bass Pro and buy some worms if you want to.

Now here is my beef. The news and the governor report on new cases like they just happened today and that is all there are until new cases break out tomorrow.
The problem. These cases identified today happened 2 weeks ago.
Virginia will not test a person until they show symptoms. So this poor slob who is sick today has been infecting other people for 2 entire weeks!!! This is beyond stupidity.
This poor slob who is headed for the hospital today is the same poor slob who sold you your worms at Bass pro a week ago. And now you are a week from showing symptoms your self. And you could be walking around infecting family and friends.

This does not look good folks.
Be careful out there and stay safe.
But Bass Pro is still open and you can go and buy some more worms.

  • Requiring people to stay at home buys time. The concern is if the number of cases explodes, as is likely to happen with full contact, the hospitals do not have enough facilities to handle them. Then folks would be really upset if they croaked because they could not get treated. Is it fair to the medical staff to overburden them. Most folks with the flu stay home.
It has only been about two weeks since the shut down started. Our parents and grand parents went thru 5 years and 4 years of war. Some countries much longer, like Israel. Are we stir cray already. Do we let our emotions override logical decision making.
I am building a cottage and sheds. This is great, except trying to find a geotech and some other services.

  • Cottage
  • I just finished the design/drawings for a cottage in Deltaville. It is a really fun project. We managed to get a down stairs master bedroom, kitchen, family room, 2 upstairs bedrooms, or 1 bedroom 1 office, into a 28X28 foot square not much bigger then a good size garage. Great views to the River feeding to the Chesapeake Bay. Little fish already up in the river this year.

  • My concern is that you may not have symptoms for two weeks. Someone selling worms at Bass Pro could be passing the virus along to dozens of people and never know it. Based on shear numbers in other countries, we already have a serious problem. The people running around out there saying this is no big deal are the very people who are passing it along and or catch it and take it back to their family. I choose the stay at home and work on past due projects approach.

  • Agreed.
As to the number compared to the flu. They are saying this is 20 times more deadly, and transmits more easily. A friend 250 miles inland just got it. Had a heart attack, is still breathing. Not other details at the moment. Shirley is about to finish her two weeks of stay home isolation after flying back from Peru. the day after she left, they shut everything down. I think my Island is still virus free.
Some of the Gulf Islands are restricting island visits to residents only.
Island Mike Hoping to here from a geotech today, and order some concrete real soon.

  • Here is the thing, a large number of people are testing positive for the virus that never had any symptoms. So either a false positive or the virus had no affect on them. I have been stating that the mortality rate is way over blown; one of the reasons for all the panic. Now studies are indicating that the mortality rate is most likely close to that of the regular flu. There just have not been the number of cases or the number of deaths that would justify shutting everything down and sending the economy into a depression. The stimulus bill will do little to offset the depression. Just how much good will getting $1200 do if they keep everything shut down for months. There are three bedroom flats that will cost you more than $1200 a month and that does not include utilities. We need to stop this madness now.

The governor of Va has declared no more than gatherings of 10 people and this includes churches. Now, the last time I check we had a constitutional right to assembly and religion and no damn governor can take away a constitutional right. Yet, they are threatening to use police and national guard so folks; yes, this is martial law. I asked a historian friend of mine if this has happened before and he said no. We have had some serious outbreaks and they never shut everything down.

This is the Democrats wet dream; everything else they tried to remove a duly elected president failed. They will say that the economy went down the clapper because of Trump; they will work this to no end. The trouble is that most Americans are stupid and can be lead as if sheep; scare them shatless and you can do anything you like to them, including taking their constitutional rights away. It is why you have to take your shoes off to get on an aeroplane.

If we don't stop this madness, the US will be plunged into a depression that will probably make '29 look like a stroll through the park.

  • The death rate is not the same as the regular flu. The Regular flu has never overwhelmed the hospitals like this one is. Just look at New York. I too thought at first that the regular flu kills 1 in 20,000. This one is 1 in 10,000 or less. And it is not done yet. The regular flu has never killed 700 people a day as in Italy.
Yes we have a right to assemble, but we do not have a right to kill each other when we know how infectious this is. Italy should loose 3,000 a year to the regular flu. They have already lost over 7,000 and they are not done yet. Still loosing over 500 a day. They may loose 10,000 people. 3.3 times the regular flu.
I enjoy my rights as much as anyone, but I do not have a right to make someone else sick if I can avoid it.
I was actually hoping that this is being overblown but the simple truth is we need to stop infecting each other and this would be over in two weeks.
If we keep trying to assemble and go to Walmart every other day this virus will continue to spread for months.
Take a break for two weeks and stop the spread.

  • "no damn governor can take away a constitutional right"

NJ's governor (anti-gun democrat)closed gun stores for gun & ammo sales and shut-down the State Police criminal background check system because of the virus.

A lawsuit was filed immediately on the grounds it violates the 2nd Amendment.

How long do you think it will take the case to pass through the court system? ...My guess is the case will be stalled until the shut-downs are repealed. ...Then it becomes a moot point.

  • You are probably right, BUT, think of what will happen. All those people wanting to purchase and couldn't will do so and probably buy more than they would have otherwise.
Oh! Kinda sounds like what happened with TP. LOL

  • stimulis
  • Where are they going to get the money to pay out the stimulus package?
They are talking trillions of $$. They already have the country trillions
in debt. A couple of years ago they said that every man, woman and child
owes almost $40,000 as part of their debt. They have stolen from social
security, the lotto system and others.
What if China says (Hey USA we want our money back)

  • Re: stimulis
  • Dividing the $6T of the so-called stimulus bill and the Fed actions by the number of folks in the US results in about $30,000 for every man, woman and child regardless of whether they work (or have ever worked) or not.

Every one of those dollars must be printed or borrowed.

This also sets a precedent. Hereafter, such nonsense will be mandatory every time the economy takes a dip.

  • Re: stimulis
  • Correction: $30,000 should be $90,000.

  • Re: stimulis
  • If they just keep printing money we wont need toilet paper
Just use a $20 bill. It will be cheaper.
