  • Hey Kimberly. . .and others. . . .
  • Are you going to hang the American flag upside down starting on January 20th?

  • Not a crime. In the 60's flags were burned and hung upside down all the time. Freaks even made pants and shirts out of them. In the 1990/2000's ditto. The liberal courts have ruled it is freedom of speech.

  • Thank you for that. I was hoping someone else would chime in, however that still leaves the question open ended. How many people will fly their flag upside down on Jan 20th and possibly beyond?
Is not an upside flag a signal of distress?
I suppose then that this is not, to a lot of threads posted on this forum.

    Wait, what?

No, no distress here. Move along, nothing to see. . . .

  • Although I would like to, I don't think I want to chance going to court over it.
    8. Respect for Flag

The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
Quick interpretation: “Dire distress and extreme danger to life or property” should not be taken lightly here. These instances do not include moments of personal dissatisfaction or times of protest. While it is legal to express yourself in whatever way you so chose, it is illegal to fly an American flag upside down unless you are in a life or death situation. People have faced legal charges for flying an American flag upside down. Stores have also been forced to remove upside down American flags on clothing.

  • I agree with you, 100%. What bothers me about how our flag is flown is that so many people who have the responsiblity to display the flag, do not know the proper way in many situations.
When I was still working, a window in our office faced the flagpoles in front of our building. Security was in charge of the flags.
There were a number of times that I called security to correct what they had done. It was almost funny. When I told them my name their response was, "John, what is wrong with the flags now?"
It can be confusing when the display includes the flags of other countries, on flagpoles of equal height. The proper instructions are very specific but it was obvious that either the person raising the flag/flags was not informed or had not been given proper instructions (or both).
One that still bothers me is flags that are enormously too large for the pole the fly on. Another is flags that are very tattered and are still being flown.

  • I went out with family to eat; back when we still had freedoms, to a place. I look up and I see the US flag is upside down. This really bothered me and I figured it was probably one of the workers that didn't even know Old Glory; I will just leave it at that. I asked for the manager before even being seated and requested the flag be flown properly.

  • the guy thatuse dto live behind us mounted an American flag upside down on the back of his barn that faced the road in front of my house. he had an interior lot so he had no road side. this was back in 2008. people stopped and gave me grief about it thinking it was my barn.
