  • Capitulation
  • Folks, it has been aware to me for some time that the US has lost the Iran war but I never thought I would see the US capitulate in such fashion.

Wondering if Trump's next book will be The Art of the Surrender....

  • Well, he did blow most of their military, military manufacturing and atomic energy program to smithereens. I am not crazy about this deal either and I don't trust the Iranians for one second. They will for sure try to violate the deal. The real test will be whether Trump lets them get away with it. I don't blame him for not wanting to kill every man, woman and child in Iran to get a better deal. If Iranians I have met here are any measure, the Persians here seem like pretty good folks. Wish they could overthrow their government.

  • No argument about your comments but the current situation is worse for the US and better for the Iranians than before Feb 28.

Though I was much in favor of the attack on Feb 28, I was not privy to the information that Trump was. I have learned much since then and now consider it to be the worst foreign policy blunder of my lifetime and, perhaps, worst on the history of the US.

The decision to go to war was made against the advice of the intelligency community and nearly all of Trump's advisors, including Vance. He was advised that the regime would likely not collapse, the Iranians would close the straight, and that air power alone would not eliminate Iran's ability to attack shipping and neighbors.

    Trump "knew better."

    What a debacle.

  • Don't think it is better for the Iranians. They are in pretty bad shape, and we have freedom, a booming economy, low inflation and an abundance of everything (including BS). We are suffering higher gas prices, but to me I would rather pay a bit more for gas than have Iran own a nuke. As a Californian, high gas prices are the norm. As noted previously, on our recent trip the Midwest the gas prices were lower than California prices before the war. On the other hand, at 79 years of age and as an "in country" (An Khe 1969) Vietnam veteran, I agree with MacArthur, Patton and Eisenhower that there is no substitute for victory, and that "limited" wars don't work.
