  • I bought an old Bosch 1581VS jigsaw today. Not sure how old it is but my guess is somewhere around the late '70s or possibly sometime in the '80s. Anyway, I got home with it and looked through the box it came in and found a whole bunch of metal cutting blades but only a rough cut wood blade. I went to the hardware store and picked up a package of smooth cut wood blades so I could try it out. I was impressed with how it cuts. Nice and clean, no vibration and felt like a good solid tool. I don't know much about Bosch tools so I thought I would ask the question on here...are they any good? This one is used and I gave $35 for it with about 16 metal cutting blades and two wood cutting blades. Oh, and it has a special screwdriver used to change blades with. Anyone own one or have experience using one?

  • Bosh makes Very good tools.
After years of making do with a couple of junkie Craftsman and B&D jig saws I did a job a couple of years ago and needed a good one for. So I looked around and bought a Bosch.
It is a joy to use. As said, smooth and plenty of power.
Bosch is a brand that will last a lifetime - plus.
If I remember correctly I paid about $160 for it so if yours still works good you got a Lot of tool for the money.
PS, Bosch has a very good online parts department so if you need anything Google them.

  • Thanks for the response. So far, no negatives. That's a good thing. : )

I'll work on getting some good blades for it. I think my other two old saws are going in the dust bin.

  • I love my 1581VS (variable speed) as well. It runs just like a sewing machine very smooth. The blades are a little pricey but are very durable. Unlike the cheaper brands that break all the time. Enjoy

  • Thanks for the response. I've been studying up on it trying to find out how to remove a broken blade and all that. Doesn't seem to complicated. One of the things that will make it really nice will be to get a good selection of blades. I'm going to shop around a little to see what I can do there.

  • Bosch tools are considered top of the line, my son has several and he likes them. I prefer Milwuakee but would never turn down a Bosch.

  • I've never had any problem with any Bosch tool. My Grandpa has quite a few Bosch tools. I think a jig saw too, but way newer than 70's or 80's. It's on my "reliable tool list"

    Just my 2 cents...

  • I was out in the shop yesterday messing around with the jigsaw when I looked down on a shelf under the bench and realized that I did have another Bosch tool. I got it at Habitat Restore. It's a palm sander. I never even paid attention to it being a Bosch before this. It works nice too. So anyway, I'm excited to have a better jigsaw. My old one has the full metal case and it is probably time to pitch it. It never cut very good anyway. I bought a cheapie at the big box store a couple years ago, It is double insulated but it is pure junk and probably headed for the trash as well.

Thanks for the response. Nice to know other folks are getting along with that brand.
