  • Any recommendations for socket sets?
  • Was having a hard time working on my bike because of all the tools that came up missing when the kids moved out. Can't afford to replace everything all at once but the sockets and torque wrench will be needed to put the bike back together. So who's got the best deal on a complete set? Only one I can find is a 299 piece set from Craftsman but there must be other options out there? and hopefully cheaper.

  • Might be time to visit the "kids", and "creep" away with your tool sets...

  • Dan, Try your local flea markets. A lot of vendors in my area sell odd sockets & wrenches. A lot of what I see is Craftsman, SK, etc.

This Craftsman Set from Walmart is hard to beat.
You can also find great deals on Craigslist or at yard sales.
I picked up a Pro Source Set from Big Lots several years ago. It has 3 ratchets and looks like a Snap on Knock off... Very nice set in a heavy plastic case where all the pieces snap in place securely.

  • What a coincidence! One of the items I'm missing is the exact set you show in the picture. I had another one from Crescent and one from Thorsen too. Guess I'll be hitting the yard sales this weekend. Don't know of any pawn shops around here.

  • I have the same set and it works great for most things. The Pro Source set I found has all the odd sizes and a lot more deep well sockets, but all in all the Craftsman set covers most everything, and it is hard to beat for $85 and a lifetime guarantee...

  • Dan, I'd check with local pawn shops as most will have not only complete sets of professional name brands, but also have individual sockets and related items. Most pawn shops in this area have very reasonable tool prices.

  • I think 99% of pawn shop tools are stolen so I dont buy them.I wont give up my tools while Im still above ground.I still have some of my Dads tools, he never had much but they are precious.I know his hands touched them.

  • Amen to that. I have some my dad used 50 years ago. They are craftsman and just as good as when purchased. Never had to turn one in.
