  • Help! I have an 8N and am trying to pull the top engine cover off to be able to more easily get to the air cleaner, spark plugs, etc and cannot get the cover free of the gas tank. (When I start to lift the hood off, the gas tanks lifts as well. ) Problem is I have a factory front end bucket loader that keeps me from seeing under the hood to see where it is attached, if at all. Any suggestions other then remove the gas tank which I can't imagine is the way it was set up?

  • like Richard says, gas tank is attached to hood so you have to remove the hood to separate it from the tank. If I remember right there is only two bolts holding the air cleaner on. Spark plugs just need a wrench. You should not need to remove the hood unless your are changing the gas tank or radiator.

  • Thanks....the more I read the responses, the more i think it would be better to just work around the gas tank. It is just incredibly tight with the bucket lift attached as the support arms are right near where i need to be working.

  • Fuel tank and hood come off as a unit. FO4 repair manual will give info on this. You will get more response if posted in the N-Forum.

  • Richard, thanks for the quick response. I did just go through the entire FO4 manual and, unless I missed it could not find any reference to removing the hood or the gas tank.

Any idea where you saw it?

  • That's the way I took mine apart for a paint job and engine rebuild. Plugs can be replaced with the hood in place, also a compression test.
