Rick , I have a PHD (unknown brand ) that I can drill about 4' with . Last fall I needed to set a power pole & wanted the hole as close to 5' as possible . So I fabricated an extension for the auger . First I dug down about 3' then unhooked the auger from the shaft of the PHD . Then installed the extension . It worked great until I hit a humungous rock which stopped the drilll at 4 1/2' . Well I figured either dianamite or just set the pole ontop of that big sucker & cement it all together .
