I have an 2N with a shredder- I use limiter chains to maintain the cutting height and will sometimes leave the pto shaft off the over run connector because I need to lift the shredder up so high it hits the pto shaft.
The only way to do this is to pop out the pin in the pto - drop the shaft (it's best to carry a small chain to hook th loose parts to the shredder - helps keep it from flopping or dragging)

I carry a small mallet and a screw driver to drive the pin out and to force it back in because it will get warped enough to give you some issues.

Once I get in the field- I drop the shredder- connect the shaft- set my height on the chains and start mowing-

If you do this PLEASE STOP THE ENGINE while you are working with the pto connections. Do not trust that the pto won't engage while it's in your hands.
