Dave, I'm inclined to agree with you. The tip was that "component" is used with the 14-339. All the lit that I have only lists two actual models for the 501 mower. On the mfg. tags that I've seen, it uses "Model" to designate that model of the implement, not "component". Ford definitely would make improvements and added kits to adapt their mower to other tractors like Fordson Dextas/Majors/etc. You can see an example from this model index page from a '62 dealer parts book - doesn't go as high as your component number, but you can get the drift........
