Ferguson/Early Massey Ferguson Implement Parts
The most valuable tool you can have when restoring a Ferguson implement is the parts book. Trying to buy parts for Ferguson implements from an AGCO dealer can be particularly difficult when the dealer tells you he has no parts book for the implement or parts are no longer available. The truth is, many parts for Ferguson implements are still available, if you have the correct part numbers. Many people working the parts counter today are not aware that many Ferguson implements became Massey Ferguson implements with new number designations replacing the old Ferguson designations.
Knowing the later Massey Ferguson number for a Ferguson implement will lead you to the Massey Ferguson parts book that contains the parts for your Ferguson implement.
Let's say you needed parts for a Ferguson S-KO-20 spring tine cultivator. Your AGCO parts man might tell you parts are no longer available. If however, you told him you needed parts for a Massey Ferguson 220 spring tine cultivator, he would pull up the parts book on his computer and you would see an exploded view of an implement that is exactly the same as the S-KO-20 cultivator. Unfortunately, most of the people working the parts counter today have no knowledge regarding Ferguson implements. Sadly, this problem began shortly after the Massey Harris-Ferguson merger when Ferguson parts books were replaced by new Massey Ferguson parts books. I recall going to a Massey Ferguson dealer when I was a boy to get parts for our Ferguson 9-BO-20 tiller and being told by the parts man that parts for that implement were not available. When I pointed out that our Ferguson tiller was exactly the same as a Massey Ferguson 37 tiller sitting in front of the dealership, he found the parts we needed were not only still available but in his parts bin.
While many parts for Ferguson and Massey Ferguson implements may no longer be in production, having the correct part number allows the parts person to search data bases of obsolete parts companies as well as the inventories of other dealers.
