I had pretty much same thing happen, turned out my starter drive was stuck against the flywheel. I spent a week messing with it trying to figure out why all I got was a click tried 2 different batteries , jumped it, put a new solinoid finally got down to starter, just pulled it put it back in and all was great ! May not be your issue but it was mine.
