Just wanted to add that any cotter pin used on a castle nut is there for a purpose -to keep the nut from loosening itself up. To do the job right, and you do want to do it right the first time, that means you need to remove the cotter pin in order to tighten the castle nut on the tapered pin. First, the socket/wrench has to fit over the hex of the castle nut -a cotter pin won't allow that and you'll just slip and round it off and/or break the cotter pin off -what a mess then. Also, your leaks may be coming from the brake seals too. Have you investigated them? I don't think you should buy any new parts, especial la R&P, until you determine the root cause(s). Get out your I&T F-04 Manual and start reading up on the R&R procedures for both jobs. Running the tractor without any gear oil is not very wise and the damage may already be done depending on how long you've been doing it.
