The early 9N-10000-A generator was/is a 2-wire/2-brush generator and uses the rectangular Voltage Regulator specifically for it. It is a B-Circuit design, externally sourced Field. The NAA VR is the same too and will work in place on an early 9N but only if using the 9N-A generator. Your 1-wire unit is the "B" unit, 3-brush/2-wire style and uses the round-can cutout. If it is indeed the 9N-B generator, it will have a black slider button on the back plate for the 3rd Brush Adjustment position, marked "HI - LO". Tapping the AMMETER will not cause afire -you had some bad wires somewhere. Also, if you have a 9N-B generator why are you using a 12 volt battery? There's more to the story we're not getting.
