You didn't say if it's a diesel. DId you check compression before R&R'ing the head gasket? If it's a diesel the smoking could be caused by a lazy injector that doesn't provide a proper spray pattern until warmed. Same for a higher time engine that is worn and doesn't smooth out until the combustion chambers warm enough for complete combustion. Cold weather, cold fuel and a little wear equals white smoke on initial start.

If you don't know the head torque (gas or diesel) and tightening sequence get them. THe information is on line or simply call a Ford tractor dealer. It's been my experience they are willing to share the information.
