Not true.

Tractor speed is reduced in Sherman UD proportional to reduction in PTO speed.

I've both 51 and 52 8Ns with Sherman combination transmissions, both are almost always in UD. I can mow MUCH heavier cover in UD than in direct.

Been doing it for going on 50 years now.
