The threads were stripped on the upper shaft on the last one I worked on .Dont pound on the nut.Its a lock nut.Always use a new regular nut to hammer on.Take the top pin out an see if a stilson wrench will turn the shaft.You can replace just the top shaft.The joint is probably rusted tight from lack of grease.Regular greasing will push the dirt out.You can see water squirt out of ball joints when greasing equipment.Extra grease can be wiped off with a rag, rust cant.
