I put in new, higher quality, points on Saturday. It ran great for about three minutes, then started sputtering again. I checked and cleaned electrical connections...
swapped coils...cleaned the carb again...jumpered the ignition switch...in short, everything I could think of to do and still, it made no difference. Today, on a whim, I tooksandpaper to the new points and it ran perfect. I ran it for about 20 minutes this timeand carried about 700lbs of dirt on my carryall. It had no problem with the power to lift or drive at all. Now I understand what someone had mentioned about a "coating"on the points. There must have been one on them and I knocked it off with the sandpaper. By the way, I set the points to .025", because my first set of Chinese points had that feeler gauge in them. That sounds wide to me. What do you guys use?
