What is the condition of the battery? If the tractor has not run in a while, the battery can and will discharge unless a battery tender is in place -see Bruce(VA)'s 75 Tips. Net, do not just start buying and replacing parts until you know exactly what the true root cause of the problem is. No spark -how did you determine? So how will a new cap fix that?

We have a ton if info in our HOW-TO's forum and here is one from ELECTRICAL. It is a document created by JMOR of all the correct ways to wire these old N's whether original 6-volt/positive ground or some type of 12-volt revision job. Find your system in the list and then verify what you have and what it is supposed to be. Do not deviate otherwise you will have problems. Be aware that many 12-volt jobs are done incorrectly. Whether you have a 6-volt/positive ground setup or a 12-volt setup, you still need the original OEM Ballast resistor in the circuit. If you are using a 6-vlt coil, you need to add an external resistor as shown below and in the wiring diagrams. Also, not all part are created equally. Don't assume because the package says it is a 1.5 (ohm) resistor, it is. get your Volt/Ohm meter and measure it. Do some problem solving then report back, and don't replace parts until you know for sure if old part is bad. Start by getting the battery tested at your trusty local starter/alternator shop, as they have the right test equipment. You just can't toss a charger on the battery and assume it is charged properly.
