You might try just heating the ring gear and not freezing the fly wheel. The cold fly wheel may be cooling the ring gear too fast and before you can get it on the fly wheel. The fly wheel has much more mass then the ring gear and may just be cooling it too quick. Try leaving the flywheel room temp and have it close by so you get the ring gear right off the grill and on to the flywheel. You might even try running a mapp gas torch around it a few times as it comes off the grill.
