As for the Hog, you expected a cream puff of a used machine? And got disappointed? 
Once again, your not the first. Adding John Deere corn head grease NGLI-00, to the gear box with bad seals slows down the leakage to a useable amount. 
I usually add it to a zip lock bag with 90W- 50/50 mix more or less and cut the corner off the bag for a pour spout. 
Next gear box should have good seals so no need to mix. 
Surpluscenter.com might have a gear box for you.
