Turns out the muffler was full of holes, so that has already been replaced. Unfortunately not before a few burning embers got planted in the fresh clearcoat. It's not too bad, might not even have to sand and re-spray. A few other small things still need to be fixed (like getting the front tires to hold air). The engine started right up, but was a bit fussy getting it up to speed. A short-fast test drive got everything up to temperature. Oil pressure is great. Power is good. No smoke at all. The timing and carb have already been tweaked closer to right. It needs to be run a bit more before getting serious about carb, and timing adjustments.

Here's a photo of the latest whack at a PCV system to replace the completely clogged road draft tube.

This is using manifold vacuum from a new T fitting behind the original metered fitting that runs the distributor vacuum advance. The PCV valve is just above a new elbow connected to the front of the manifold where the road draft tube was. The filtered inlet vent is as far back on the valve cover as I could fit it. The system seems to work as it should, and the oil will stay cleaner.
