At serial number 9N-12500, about April, 1940, there were many pivotal changes made on the FORD 9N tractor. Actually, many changes were made all throughout FoMoCo then. My talks with Jason Grooms, the Early 9N Ford-Ferguson Man, deduced that the loop rims MAY have been used up thru the first 700/800 units and obsolete at the same time as the aluminum hoods. The aluminum hood is another part not documented in any MPC. The MPC lists p/n 9N-16612-B and 9N-16612-C only so we can assume the 'A' version was what the MPC does refer to as the 'cast hood'. I say the 'B' hood was when it went to the steel unit with the snap-in battery cover. The 'C' hood, was the steel unit with the hinged battery/fuel filler access door. FWIW, the early 9N gas tank, which had the filler spout central on the tank, is listed as p/n 9N-9002-A, with a note that it was 'used on all tractors'. The 'A' suffix denotes there were at least two units, however, I find no listing for a 'B' version. Could this be yet another fallen undocumented part? Perhaps Scott Deppen or Don Barkley will chime in.
