Maybe the previous owner of the 2N mucked it up. Perhaps he hit a large obstruction while mowing or plowing such as a rock or tree stump. It seems to me it would take a tremendous force to break that arm and that would do it. These N's can take a lot of punishment but like anything else, if abused hard enough, will have effects. As you said, the splined lift arms did not change, but removing one or both will present a challenge. Note there are two bushings in the 545 arm as well. JMOR may be right -the 8N 545 part may work, just delete the cam. Try calling Derek at JUST8Ns and ask him -he'd be able to tell you for sure.
