Like I said, polarization isn't really needed if just replacing the battery, only if the generator has been removed and/or replaced. No it does not matter how the arc spark direction goes. I just take a screwdriver and touch the VR terminals. On the newer style VR's the ARM and the BAT tabs are towards the outside with the FLD tab on the inner most side of VR and you don't want to touch the FLD terminal. Just remember all harnesses are not created equal. Meaning do not use their colors as a guide. The only correct harnesses -Dennis Carpenter's exact-as-original repoops, also sold at Just8Ns, and the ones Agri-Services make are correctly OEM color coded. DC and Just8's sell OEM NOS key switches -get one of those -cloth covered is best. Aftermarket ammeters can be gotten there as well. These have screw terminals. If you get a reverse reading when tractor runs, the charging needle goes negative, simply switch the wires around but if you follow the wiring diagram you should be good the first time. Kim -where are you located? Maybe one of us could pop in and help/advise in person?
