We still don't know what system you are working with? I looked at your initial post and saw nothing to tell us if it is a front mount or an angle mount distributor, if it is a 6V/POS GRN system or a 12V/NEG GRN system. By your comment, "...It was not in the grove and when I tightened the dist down it would push the plate in the dist forward. Even had the ring in place. Just glad that I didn't crack or break the dist it's self...". I am thinking it is a front mount distributor based on that statement and that you said "it is 180 off". If the offset tang on the front mount distributor isn't set correctly on the engine mounting surface, yeah, it's 180 off but it will not bolt down flush and you will crack the distributor base the first time you try and fire it up, trust me. So perhaps this time, after removing it and rebuilding/tuning it up it you got it installed correctly??? I still fail to see how the base didn't get busted before -it would have to be very loosely mounted and then only with some luck.
