Usually when a clutch is worn they won't hold. The disc has become so thin there isn't enough spring in the pressure plate to hold it. Symptom does seem more like a sticky clutch than a worn clutch. Look for goo coming out the cotter wobble hole under the clutch housing. Any "stuff" coming out that hole may be turning into glue on your clutch and pressure plate. Another possible cause could be in the linkage. Look carefully at all linkage parts for something loose or cracked. It may help to have someone stomp on the pedal while you watch the linkage.
