I'm pretty sure the thread go completely through the case. You might try this---take a small piece of flat steel, say 3/16" thick, 1" wide, and 2" long, drill a 3/8 or 7/16" hole right in the middle---lay the hole you just drilled directly over the broken stud, and electric weld the broken stud to the metal with a 6013 rod. This rod won't stick well to the cast iron, but will to the stud. The heat of welding will also aid in loosening the stud, and you should be able to screw it out----good luck, Denniss
