860 freeze plug

I posted awhile back about my 860 freeze plug leaking coolant.....finally got around to pulling it out. I had to loosen the starter to get at it(it was the rear plug). I though I had replaced both plugs when I tore down the tractor 10 or 12 years ago, but I guess it was just a hosing out from the temp gauge port to the water pump opening. I just remember getting lots of sand out of there. Here's pics of the plug & hole....


Sorry for the giant pics, I forgot to size them down. I installed one of those rubber expansion plugs back in the hole. Anyone have experience with these? It was a quick fix, but I'm guessing if one plug rotted out, the other will follow. Replacing both with new brass plugs will be added to the list of small winter projects.
