Factory spec and 70 year old machine ability MAY be two very different abilities. It will depend on condition of hydraulics.
As for the rototiller. In the 1950s my father acquired a 3 point rototiller in an auction. As said, and for our '51 8N, the standard 8N gear ratios ground speed is/was too fast.
Now, last year I was suprised when my neighbor said that his son purchased a new rototiller from TSC and was mounting it on their 1953 NAA (Jubilee). I said then that the ground speed was too fast just like an 8N.
WELL, was I shocked when I saw him working his garden plot. 1st gear, no problem. Very fluffy finish. Then, double shock, he went to 2nd gear. Dirt was flying!
I have not investigated the make but obviously the mfg. engineering took Ns into consideration.
BTW, our soils here are predominently clay. I will say that he has plowed this same parcel in past years.
