Help with a converted 12 volt system on a 48 8N
I have a 8n front mount distributor tractor that was converted to 12v by the previous owner. The tractor ran well. Recently I had the key switch turned on and got distracted for a few minutes. I noticed smoke coming out from under the hood. The in line resistor was burning up. Looking at the 12v set up, it appears to be a kit, with square coil but i am unsure if it is a 6v or 12v. Wiring goes to inline resistor but not original ballast resistor. The burnt resistor had one fine wire still connecting the wiring post on one side. I purchased a 12v to 6v resistor to replace this and the tractor will not start. If I put the burnt one back in, it starts? Can anyone point me in the right direction on figuring this out?
